The production-ready Maruti Ignis will look largely identical to its concept that had made its India debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

Maruti Ignis sub-compact crossover that made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, will go on sale in the country during this year’s festive season. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5 lakh – Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom), the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will take on the Mahindra KUV100.

Similar to the Baleno and the Brezza, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be manufactured with high-level of localization. Just like the Baleno, the company might also export this vehicle to several overseas markets. For people not in the know, the Ignis will be the company’s third all-new product to be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealership range. The company claims that the Ignis has SUV DNA with perfect combination of latest technology, uniqueness and innovation.

Maruti Suzuki India has confirmed that it will launch the Ignis during 2016 festive season i.e. October – November. Exact launch date could be announced very soon.

For the Japanese market, the Suzuki Ignis is being offered with a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system. The gasoline unit produces a maximum power output of 89.75bhp and 120Nm of peak torque. The same engine with ISG (Idle Stop & Go) system offers additional 3.08bhp and 50Nm. While the 2WD (two-wheel drive) system comes as standard across all variants in Japan, Suzuki’s All Grip 4WD (four-wheel drive) system is an optional offering. This powertrain is matched to a CVT gearbox that helps the car return an impressive mileage of 28kmpl (for the 2WD) and 15.4kmpl (for the AWD). Having said that, the India-bound model may not get an AWD variant.

In India, Maruti Suzuki Ignis is likely to come with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine, which are the same that do duty in the Swift and the Baleno as well. While the gasoline engine yields power worth 83bhp against 115Nm, the oil burner, on the other hand, is good for 74bhp and 190Nm. Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Upon its launch in India, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will take on the Mahindra KUV100 which currently is among the most affordable sub-4 metre compact SUVs in the country. It will also rival hatchback-based crossovers like Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross, etc.

9. Maruti Ignis – Exterior
The production model of the compact crossover will look largely identical to its concept that was put on display at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Similar to the Japanese model, the one coming to India could also be offered in 6 variants across 3 trim levels – MG, MX and MZ. Based on Suzuki’s new-generation platform, the Maruti Ignis is claimed to be lighter and more robust than other existing Maruti cars. It’s the same platform that underpins the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Some of the standout design elements of the Ignis are – neatly chromed front fascia, chunky styling with flared wheel arches and jewelled headlamps. The car also gets a clam-shell bonnet, and projector headlamps instead of LED units. The side profile of the car is highlighted by blacked out A and B pillars, power-foldable and adjustable ORVMs, pull-style door handles instead flush units, and a pair of 10-spoke, 16-inch aluminium wheels with 175/60 tyres.

The rear profile of the Ignis looks quite simple with conventional bumper with black insert, tailgate mounted spoiler, turn indicators and a rear windscreen wiper. The Ignis is 3,700mm long, 1,660mm wide, 1,595mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,438mm. A ground clearance of 180mm will not only gives it a crossover-ish stance, but will also help it handle uneven roads easily. The top-end model with 2WD drivetrain system weighs 880kg. The India-bound model will come with a choice of 8 different exterior colours.

10. Maruti Ignis – Interior
From inside, the compact crossover looks quite sporty. The car gets a dual-tone dashboard with integrated touchscreen display and sporty orange highlights here and there. Similar to the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza, the top-end model of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis might be equipped with a SmartPlay system with Apple CarPlay. Features like Bluetooth-enabled audio system, automatic climate control, regenerative braking, heated front seats and keyless entry with engine starter button will also be on offer

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will also come with multiple customization options including all-black and dual-tone (white & black) interior theme, optional orange and silver interior accents, etc.

With a 5-seat configuration, this upcoming mini crossover is expected to offer decent legroom for the front and rear seat passengers. The foldable rear seats can be adjusted for 165mm extra legroom. The vehicle offers a boot capacity of 258-litres that can be extended up to 415-litres. The Ignis also comes loaded with several advanced safety & security features such as dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD,  automatic headlights with automatic levelling. This mini SUV offers multiple storage areas for bottles, cell phones, etc.
